Gums Update

Here's an update on my final film for this semester. It's an update of my animatic, now with a mix of pencil line tests, coloured but backgroundless Animate Pro renders and two finished shots.

You'll notice that the coloured shots all have liens that are either dark purple for Solomon and the Count and dark red for Sid unlike the initial pngs I posted earlier this month. This change is mainly due to the amount of time it takes to fully colour the lineart but it is equally an aesethic choice. I found that in the case of the two vampires the dark purple actually worked better than the original palette. Time wise it was taking me between 5-7 minutes per frame to colour prior to changing to the single colour plan and now I've cut that down to 3-5 minutes. This may only be two minutes but when you're optionally dealing with 1080 frames this starts to make quite the welcome difference.

Enough of my ramblings. Enjoy :)

As you can see I've done a bit more colouring so here are some more pings for you to see featuring the new lines.

Dodo Backgrounds

As promised here are the backgrounds I've been doing for Don't do the Dodo over the past few weeks. There are still a few more to go so keep an eye out :)

Long time...

..no post.

I have done work, I promise, mostly animating which I haven't managed to put into my animatic yet but I will be updating that by Wednesday. I've also got a couple Don't do the Dodo backgrounds which I'll be posting probably tomorrow.

In the meantime here's a happy, drumming southerner for you guys.

90 Second People

Here are some sketches I did using the 30 Second Drawing tool on Posemaniacs, an awesome website for all you arty people. Each of these fellas (and ladies) took 90 seconds to do. I'm planning to do a few more and hopefully get quicker :)

Pings

Here's a sample of some frames from the shots I coloured today which I've done in Photoshop and saved out as PNGs which will then be composited in Animate Pro. You'll notice than the lines are still sketchy and rough. This is because rather than ink my completed animation and then colour in Animate Pro, (my usual pipeline), I have chosen to try and keep the freshness of my pencil line-tests by colouring underneath them directly and therefore forgo inking, which often seems to deaden 2D animation I've found.

I'll not upload every frame but I'll try and upload an example from each shot as I go. Here are shots 3, 5 and 22.1

Gums Layouts

Sticking with the layout theme here are the layouts for my short film Gums. They may look a bit boring with all the trees, and somewhat flat, but again colour should fix this. These took me a day to produce but will be very helpful when it comes to putting the scene together. Normally I wouldn't put this much detail in layouts, Tafti's where much simpler, but I in putting the thinking in here, as it where, I am hoping to save time in the painting stage.

Dodo Layouts

Here's the first of a few updates for this week, my apologies for spamming your feeds guys but at least there's pretty stuff to look at ;)

Here are the layout sheets I produced for Don't do the Dodo. These will be used during animation to position the characters within their scenes and will be used by me to make the final coloured and layered Photoshop backgrounds. They may look a bit boring now but I promise the finals will be prettier :)

Dorne

Finally anther pic of Doran Martell from ASOIAF. I've been meaning to repaint him for a while so I'm glad he's done. Doran is definitely one of my favorite characters from the series.
